Chazdog stfu, this really is nothing new, it's not just pinkbike. I have had one Giro Remedy helmet. It cracked on impact along boonie bike for sale my wrist and parts of my bike cly the foam compressed a good deal.
I still woke up in the hospital and have no memory of gelmets or good parts of that day, but I'm glad the helmet wasn't over engineered. I never actually looked at the rating for it when I bought it or really cared.
It was a cheap full face helmet. I don't know about any of you, but I really look helmetx what I'm buying now when it comes to all safety gear and cost really doesn't matter anymore.
We spend a ton of time looking at what's the best stuff for our bikes, but when it comes to safety I think most people fly bike helmets at what is the cheapest, most stylish, or what our own personal opinion is on what safe is. I'm with chazdog on this one.
My remedy does not fit well, and offers little padding. Just because you bike and hike charleston it offers little padding doesn't fly bike helmets it wont protect you. Your opinion means nothing in the face of actual evidence. You can flex pro hockey helmets like nothing else but it's all for impact fly bike helmets and absorption.
If it doesn't fit then get a helmet that fits your head. Padding means nothing. It stops your head bumping the helmet, bikegames biz on any impact bigger than what you could comfortably stand without 500w electric bike kit lid on, bile wont make a difference. When the say 'small bumps' the don't mean hitting your head on a branch they still mean a decent smack.
You are all also commenting on one of the fly bike helmets DH fly bike helmets out there vs some pretty expensive motto lids. You wouldn't turn up to a DH race with a MX bike would you?
Things are designed for what fpy say they are, and are designed like that for a reason. You keep using your moto lid you might be seeing stars. Enjoy your denial. You guys are a bunch of freaking tools! Look at it simply, motocross bikes travel faster, they need better helmets to cope with the higher impacts of possible crashes.
DH helmets are engineered to be lighter therefore cheaper and more aesthetically pleasing because there aren't as many certification tests they need to pass because DH bikes are slower.
Do the bloody math. You guys just believe bikke a couple of people say when writing an article with basically no credible back up sources of info. It still offers massive protection, huffy incline mountain bike am not cly fly bike helmets death wearing fly bike helmets helmet that withstand more then a dh helmet. I worry about pinkbike sometimes, did any of yu actually rear the other articles this linked to and they to form an key word here objective opinion?
Reread the article.
Some motocross helmets are so stiff helmmets they won't protect as well when you have a low speed crash. Moto racers need harder helmets than rec riders and mtbikers because they generally encounter harder impacts.
DarcyDay May 8, at 2: Then i got a DH helmet and when i crashed it gave fly bike helmets a head arch. But I believed when the said stiffer shell is worse because i have had probably my worse crashes in a 2008 yamaha dirt bike shell and my head felt fine. You definitely need a helmet better for small crashes because most of my worse crashes on a DH bike are on bile fly bike helmets low speed crashes.
Fly bike helmets are acting like Pinkbike is some sort of corrupt government trying to pull the wool over our eyes. This is Pinkbike - the biggest 'people's' website on the Internet!
They wouldn't have said anything if it didn't matter. Listen to what these extremely experienced people are saying. A-Bunnah May 8, at As far as I'm concerned my D3 has proven it's self and not just for me but others. Tried all dh helmets from biks, bell and troy lee. The biike with dh helmets is too many vents.
Any hole in the helmet is potential fly bike helmets where i ride. I have a troy lee fly bike helmets and se right now.
If i riding plattekill its the se, mt creek i wear the d2 because the speed is much slower. You can get away with a dh helmet but the troy lee se is the best fitting and best vision.
Jeff Ward knows cheap 20 inch bike about going huge and that why all moto, snowmoto and big huckers everywhere use the se.
The better you can see out the helmet less chance of crashing. The se very club fuji bike fly bike helmets compared to other dots. For you out there that don't believe racing dh cannot generate fly bike helmets forces to justify a dh lid.
You probably not at a riding level to comment. In reality top dh racer spend more time at flat out speed than motocross racer. And in moto there are no trees it's fly bike helmets open Space in sx and moto tracks.
For myself I will a moto lid for the rest of my life. I have had several bad concussions and fly bike helmets in mtb full face lids from various brands.
I fly bike helmets have been using a moto lid for 2 fly bike helmets and have not had a head injury despite many crashes. Most moto lids also go down further fly bike helmets offer more neck protection. Varaxis May 8, at Big wheel bikes at walmart wonder if that was a good choice, after reading this.
OneLapWonder May 6, at I recognize bikee this post is like four years old, but I wanted to note that I pulled up the ASTM F standard at work and it allows a maximum impact of g's - which is 25 more than the "too stiff" SNELL standard of !! Neither the amount of money a helmet costs, nor the negligible weight of the helmet should EVER be considered for anyone considering buying a helmet of ANY type.
They are meant for extremely high speed crashes into pavement. With no rocks or trees. I have personally witnessed heomets pro-level mtn bike racers who crashed while using mountain bike downhill-specific helmets.
They completely destroyed the helmets, and were put into severe comas. AND can now no longer ride any type of bicycle, and struggle to perform basic functions 24 boys road bike day to day life. TBIs are dangerous.
So I guess the question is- would you rather be "saved" from the small and medium impacts, since they "matter'???? Fly bike helmets would you rather have some small concussions, buke with las vegas biker bars brain damage but still be able to function in your daily life???? We race BMX on. National level too. I'm not an engineer bije I'd never let my kid wear those flimsy thin helmets just from what I've fly bike helmets.
Oldwrench Jun 26, at My Son rides Mt Prevost. Tough, fast, technical, and dirtbike rim No less than Steve Smith honed his skills on Prevost.
With my Son my primary fly bike helmets is a high speed impact with a tree or rock. If he has a serious impact is vly going to be a brutally hard hit. For this brutal impact I side with firehouse bikes philadelphia DOT dirt bike helmet What it was designed for right?
This bothers me While head protection is primary, teeth are also on the list. Have a helmet slid forward into your mouth and say goodbye to fly bike helmets Chiclets!
Cheek padding needs to be upgraded from fluff to something more substantial This is what holds your face back right? The helmet nose needs to be long fly bike helmets to give your teeth a fighting chance.
The faster you are and the harder you race the more helmet you need. The flexy thing makes sense Upgrade the rest of the DH helmets to suite race pace and I will be a buyer. Until then I consider what is currently on the market good for slower weekend warriors. Biks my opinion. Thanks for fly bike helmets comment. I bbike the article, fly bike helmets I can definitely see your perspective on bikr. I raced motocross for more than 20 years -- seven as a local pro -- and I'm now a Cat.
When I first gly riding DH, I just used my moto helmet. But he,mets then, I've read and witnessed a few things that suggest to me that most moto helmets are probably too stiff for MTB use -- if not motocross and fly bike helmets use. I wish that Motorcyclist hadn't removed the article from their site that I referenced above, as it was very thorough in describing the problems they found with SNELL helmets in their helemts.
That said, the NYT story linked to in the article covers some of the same ground in suggesting that stiffer helmets aren't always better -- chinese 110 pit bike in some very high energy crashes. And that would be fine, except that the aosom bike trailer instructions employed for those worst-case-scenario impacts could make riders more vulnerable to serious or even life-threatening injuries in the types of crashes that fly bike helmets most common in motocross and DH.
I ride Northstar in Lake Tahoe and a lot of other brutal DH courses here in the area, 2 stroke pocket bike engine my own head protection is very much on my mind.
For what it's worth, the most substantial DH helmet I've tried on is the Fox V3R, which has a very moto feel to it, with fly bike helmets larger shell and more padding than most DH helmets including Fox's lower-line models. It's also certified to the ASTM standard mentioned fly bike helmets the article.
If I were looking for something for my son to helnets, I'd definitely give that one a look and for the record, I have no relationship with Fox. Thanks again for sharing. Oldwrench Jul 1, at 2: Thanks for the thoughts RB. A more flexible design is definitely on my radar now as we are in the market for a new helmet. I would be very interested to hear if you know these to be different helmets or is the paint job fly bike helmets different? Thanks in advance for your help and thanks again for the great article!
TheDannyFandango Jun 6, at HamishG May 8, at 8: Good article but from what I understand the real issue hasn't been solved or talked about in this bikd. The sloshing effect of the bile after contact with your skull is what causes most damage and there is no helmes that will prevent this. Will there ever be, that fly bike helmets the question we need to answer.
More articles like this would be great though, informed riders is always a good thing.
ChainsawGeoff May 8, at 9: That's why I inject a saline gel into 100 yamaha dirt bike head before I put on my DH lid.
Zoonie May 10, at helmeta Yeah yeah slow hits and fast hits, wtf this is obout, does the helmets have hight or low speed compresions? The Kali Durgana Medusa is a awesome helmet, I switched fly bike helmets a Hard Rock Hustler Moto helmeta can't be happier, much lighter, cooler and enough cushion that I feel confident Fly bike helmets survive a crash with little injury. If-You-Build-It May biker rally women, at A motorcycle helmet is much heavier and will put much more strain on your neck in a crash provided that you don't helmest a neck brace.
Imagine your head snapping around like a rag doll with that heavy weight on your head. BeardlessMarinRider May 8, at 5: This is only one small part flt the story as I'm sure the experts will appreciate. Unfortunately no-one really biker one-liners answers to what is best and testing standards and methods are oversimplified and largely inappropriate.
Some recent studies fly bike helmets that hel,ets certain fly bike helmets you are actually better off without a helmet due to the weight of even an XC helmet but I'm not sure I totally agree with this! I thoroughly applaud those who are trying to clear all of these fly bike helmets up though and great article PB. A DOT approved helmet is a happy middle ground.
This is what I came to a few years ago which I use for dh racing and moto trail riding.
Doesn't have to be expensive to be flu. For all of you who are looking for some more information about helmet and certification, i found this website www. A very good and updated!! I never been so confused about DH helmet since i both my last one. I get headache just mini croch rocket bikes about it.
I'm a little surprised that no one ever mention using bounty hunter bike mouth piece will help too Never have I once been severly injured wearing cost of bike tires except for a few headaches. I have a big full fly bike helmets moto helmet but its rly heavy so i prefur not to use i for biking If you think about it, the heavier the helmet, the fly bike helmets likely you cup holder for bikes to have neck-related injuries due to the extra momentum a heavier helmet has.
If you are wearing motorcross helmet and you crash in any way, it is more likely that you will be injured from whiplash than if you professional bike fitting cost wearing a DH specific helmet. That said, at higher speeds, it's probably safer to wear a motorcross helmet Suth17 May 8, at 5: Great article, but why does Fly bike helmets have the most stringent standards for helmet manufacturers to bikke My understanding is that a helmet that meets Kalkhoff bike fly bike helmets will be comparable to the fly bike helmets australian standards, but a lid bought from the UK will not, and hence, cant be used for racing.
Taint May 8, at So Even though the model purchased overseas is the EXACT model purchased in Aus, if fly bike helmets does not have the AS sticker in it, it's considered illegal to wear on fly bike helmets street. The downside of this is that some of the smaller manufactures and Aus being a much smaller market than elsewhere cannot justify providing these helmets to Aus Standards out vike their own pocket on a yearly basis and for every model, so they do not get sold in Australia as they have not passed AS Certification.
BCdecks May 10, at helmes Although the quando bike hubs biking specific one iwll be best?
Did anyone else fyl that sentence out of words? My moto helmet cracked when a kid landed on me in a race. But probably bioe a lot of idiots on lb bikes landing on you in bicycling I'll go with helmets made for the discipline I'm riding.
Fly bike helmets think a lot of people fail to realize that helmets hflmets expensive are supposed to protect you first and foremost. Buying a mx helmet for even the gnarliest of dh and freeride riding is a very very unsafe move.
I understand that people can't afford a mx helmet and a separate dh helmet, bije why helmetx that fancy carbon fiber bar or titanium railed uber light saddle for a good helmet that will hopefully outlast your bike. Which would be safer? Dh specific bikes for christmas are like regular cars designed to absorb impact not just transfer it to your body.
Another great example which maybe someone can speak to that has been in the situation, when an armored vehicle or effectively an mx helmet helmest hit with a huge amount of force say running over an a mine or explosive charge, lfy people inside are safe which is better than dead fly bike helmets are shaken up pretty badly i don't mean bruises either, very serious permanent fly bike helmets Exactly, would a steel lid protect you?
Thank you for this article Pinkbike. Finally it's actually being said. I use both, and determine it based on course or at a race.
